IGN Layoffs Reportedly Hit Multiple Departments, Brian Altano and Seth Macy

IGN has reportedly undergone another round of layoffs affecting multiple departments, with longtime personalities Brian Altano and Seth Macy among those impacted.

According to Kotaku, the September 14 cuts reached several areas of the gaming website, though the total number of affected employees has not been confirmed. Kotaku also reports that remote working arrangements and employees’ willingness to relocate may have played a role in some cases.

Altano had been with IGN since 2009 and became one of the site’s most recognizable hosts, including through his work on the PlayStation-focused Podcast Beyond. Macy served as a senior commerce editor and was also a frequent presence on Nintendo Voice Chat.

Senior Manager of Tech Coverage Bo Moore also confirmed that he was among those laid off. His departure came on the same day his team published extensive coverage of Valve’s Steam Frame.

“My team had a huge content day today on IGN, covering the launch of Valve’s Steam Frame,” Moore wrote on Bluesky. He added that although his byline appeared on only one of seven stories published that morning, he had edited all of them and worked additional hours ahead of the coverage.

This is not IGN’s first round of layoffs in 2026. A smaller group of employees, including engineers, was let go earlier this year shortly after IGN Live concluded in Los Angeles.

The latest cuts follow several years of changes across IGN Entertainment. Parent company Ziff Davis acquired Gamer Network’s portfolio in 2024, bringing outlets including Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, GamesIndustry.biz, and VG247 under the wider IGN Entertainment group. Editorial cuts have occurred across parts of the organization since the acquisition.

The layoffs also follow IGN’s summer event coverage, including San Diego Comic-Con, where Altano was among the staff conducting interviews.
