Pokémon Winds and Waves are set to release in 2027, and although little is known about the Generation 10, Nintendo Switch 2 games, excitement is high, with many believing they have the potential to be the greatest titles in the series since the days of the DS. However, Pombon, Browt, and Gecqua aren't the only new stars coming from Game Freak's developers.
Game Freak may be best known for Pokémon, but the series is far from all they develop. Other standout titles from them include: Pulseman, HarmoKnight, and Little Town Hero. Now, famed Pokémon director Shigeru Ohmori has revealed a brand-new game: Rainy Day, Sunny Girl.
Pokémon Director Reveals New Game Coming Soon
Shigeru Ohmori has been a key part of Pokémon's identity since the early 2000s. After getting his start as a planner on Yakiniku Bugyou he was tapped to be a game and map designer for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Since then, he's had a hand in every mainline Pokémon game, as well as several spinoffs, with his most notable roles being as the director of every mainline game between Generations 7 and 9, and as the senior director of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Pokopia.
Now, during Game Freak's latest livestream, Ohmori has revealed that he's directing and producing a new, non-Pokémon game. Known as Ame Nochi Hare Onna in Japan, the game will be hitting mobile devices elsewhere as Rainy Day, Sunny Girl.
Rainy Day, Sunny Girl is taking full advantage of the hardware it's on, as its core mechanic revolves around checking the real-world weather, and implementing that into the gameplay. Both in and out of battle, players will have to make choices dependent on whether it's sunny, rainy, cloudy, or snowy.
The actual plot of Rainy Day, Sunny Girl revolves around magical beings known as "Hare-onna," AKA Sunny Girls, who can channel weather forecasts into unique magic powers. They also each come paired with a cloud-like creature known as a Kumorin. The game will follow the Sunny Girls and Kumorin as the latter help the former don their "Hare-gi" outfits, and use their abilities to defeat the Yamikumo, creatures who are disrupting the weather all across Japan.
With little other detail given, Game Freak has also revealed that washing the Sunny Girls will be an important part of the gameplay. While it's unclear how, doing so will help to make the characters stronger.
Rainy Day, Sunny Girl is set to be released on iOS and Android devices in Winter 2026, but no exact release date has been given. The official iOS page for the game is live, however. What has been provided to fans is a music video celebrating the game's announcement on Game Freak's Japanese YouTube channel.
