Stranger Than Heaven Launches “Battles Without Honor and Humanity” Collaboration

RGG Studio, Toei, and Sega have launched a Stranger Than Heaven collaboration with “Battles Without Honor and Humanity.”

For those unaware, the latter is a film series directed by Kinji Fukasaku. Bunta Sugawara, in Stranger Than Heaven, was also a prominent figure.

Japan will also exclusively see merchandise from this collaboration. The video features “music, stylistic elements, and editing inspired by the iconic film series.”

The title follows protagonist Makoto Daito across five decades of Japanese history, from 1915 to 1965. Makoto, born to an American father and Japanese mother, loses both parents early in life before stowing away on a ship bound for Japan.

Each chapter takes place during a different historical period and introduces new criminal factions and entertainment districts.

Makoto possesses strong musical talent, and players can collect environmental sounds from around the world to create original songs later in the game. During combat, players independently control Makoto’s left and right limbs using the shoulder triggers.

Stranger Than Heaven will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC via Steam on January 15, 2027.
