Midgar served as the primary setting of Final Fantasy VII Remake before Cloud and his companions ventured beyond the city in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Its return in Revelation comes as the trilogy approaches its conclusion, with the party preparing for its final confrontation against Sephiroth.

Exploration is also expanding considerably in the final entry. Players will be able to travel across an interconnected planet aboard the Highwind, choosing where to descend and skydive into different regions. The game will feature various cities, environments, and remote areas to explore.

Beyond exploration, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will introduce Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine as playable party members. The combat system retains the series’ combination of real-time action and command-based abilities, while the new FITS system adds class-based abilities and outfits for additional character customization.

As previously reported, the game will also let players select Hard Mode from the beginning, while Dynamic Mode returns to scale encounters alongside character progression.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows, the Epic Games Store, and Steam on April 8, 2027.
