At least 26 people have been laid off from Sucker Punch Productions as Sony observed “challenges in the market.” Similar to a studio like Arkane Lyon, who are seeking a buyer following the big XBOX Reset thing, the Ghost of Yotei dev is not a huge studio in the scheme of AAA developers.
A report from Aftermath shared an internal email that revealed several positions have been eliminated to navigate the challenges in the market and needs of their next project.
“After carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project, we’ve decided to make some staffing reductions. Several positions across Sucker Punch will be eliminated as a result.
We know this is a lot to take in, and we want to assure you that we did not make this decision lightly. We have given this a lot of attention and worked to support our affected colleagues during this transition as well as we can. … There’s no getting around that this is a hard day. Next week we will go into more details about the future.”
It sounds like there are more details that will no doubt get pushed to public either officially or thanks to some mysterious whistleblower. Of note, Sucker Punch only really has around 160 people, though we can slash 26 from that count now.
