After years of development (and a few missed release windows), the next game in the Professor Layton series finally has an actual release date, courtesy of the latest Nintendo Direct.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will see the eponymous professor and his assistant Luke exploring the town of Steam Bison in America, which is said to be “a rapidly developing American town plagued by mysterious incidents”. The game, of course, features a tonne of brand-new puzzles by QuizKnock, a bunch of new and possibly returning characters, 3D environments, and more. The Switch 2 version of the game will support mouse controls, too, which is neat.
It’s a long time coming for the game, which was first announced in a Nintendo Direct back in February 2023. It was originally slated to be released in 2025, but the year came and went without any sign of a release. Almost a year later, it’s finally dated for December.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be released on both Switch and Switch 2 on December 10, 2026.
